Jakarta is located on the island Java and 165 million of the 250 million Indonesians live on Java.
But Indonesia also consists of a number of other famous islands like Borneo (70% Indonesian), Sumatra and New Guinea (50% Indonesian). All these are known for tropical forest and primitive tribal life.
Indonesia also consists of Islands like Lombok and especially Bali that is world class vacation places and as a Jakarta inhabitant… Bali is one of my own favorite getaways; travelling to Bali is a 90 minutes plane trip from Jakarta at around USD 150 for a round trip, so getting there is both financially doable and fairly quick.
On top of that there are around 17500 more islands to explore…. Additionally the cultures and habits in Indonesia are very varied since a large part of this archipelago has been isolated until recently. Indonesia is one of the countries in the world with most spoken and written languages as well.
This place is amazing, diverse and big and you can a lifetime trying to get the big picture of Indonesia and you will not be able to grasp it all.
